According to a report by the BBC, Facebook was once again compelled to deny rumors that the company is hijacking computer and mobile device mics to secretly record conversations after Reply All presenter PJ Vogt mentioned the issue during a recent podcast. Facebook advertising V.P. Rob Goldman responded on Twitter, saying, "I run ads product at Facebook. We don’t—and have never—used your microphone for ads. Just not true.” Several possible explanations for Facebook’s seemingly creepy ad placement currently includes things like predictive data analytics, as well as data pulled from users and their friends’ statuses and messages.
