Waukesha South High School is located about 20 miles or 32 km west of Milwaukee. The school was put on lockdown today and then dismissed after a shooting, reports Reuters. The incident occurred after a student pulled out a handgun and refused to stand down. When the student did not respond to the school resource officer’s insistence, he was shot. The officer attempted de-escalation efforts prior to drawing and shooting his weapon. The 17-year-old male shooter was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. No officers or other students were injured in the incident.
