According to Bloomberg, U.S. president Barack Obama is planning to invoke a provision from a 1953 law to block the sale of offshore drilling rights in U.S. owned parts of the Arctic and Atlantic.The provision, which has rarely been used until now, was written to protect coral reefs and marine structures.Obama is expected to make the move as soon as Tuesday, and he could use it to remove the U.S. from future oil and gas leasing.The White House has not commented on Bloomberg's account.
