It has been recently found that Barnes & Noble's 50 dollar Nook 7 tablets came pre-installed with a spyware program called ADUPS, which quietly sends user data to a third party. The tablets went on sale in time for the holidays, however these tablets are outsourced products rather than a partnership with Samsung, as Barnes & Noble has done in previous years. The Barnes & Noble chief digital officer, explained in a statement that the company is "working on a software update to remove ADUPS completely from the NOOK Tablet 7" and that in the meantime the tablets are safe to use.
