An unrelenting heat wave in July caused Greenland to experience a staggering melt of its ice sheet, says HuffPost. The melting ice produced enough water to cover all of Florida by several inches, researchers said. The semi-autonomous Danish territory has 82% of its surface covered in ice, but lost 197 billion metric tons of ice in July. The Danish Meteorological Institute said that's about four times the amount it would normally expect to lose in July. The secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization said, "It is the reality of climate change."
