The Trump administration believes France discriminates against US-based technology giants. According to Business Insider, their justification via a digital services tax it passed in July. In response, it's threatened to hit France with steep retaliatory tariffs on dozens of its products. The Office of the US Trade Representative wants tariffs as high as 100% on roughly $2.4 billion worth of its products. Dairy products, including delicious French cheeses, could be targeted. Soap, makeup, handbags, and kitchenware also made the hit list. Finally, sparkling wine, made from grapes could be taxed beyond all recognition, including champagne. Mon Dieu!
