Gizmodo reports levels of radiation as high as 71 microsieverts per hour have been detected near Japan’s J-Village. The sports facility is the starting point of the upcoming Olympic torch relay. The discovery was made by surveyors with Greenpeace Japan. The environmental organization warns that monitoring and decontamination efforts in Fukushima are inadequate. This level of radiation is hundreds of times greater than what’s stipulated in Japan’s decontamination guidelines. Greenpeace Japan has demanded the Japanese government conduct regular radiation monitorings. Certain regions of Japan were hard hit by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.
